How cats age
Cats reach the rough equivalent of human adulthood within their first two years, which is why those years count for so much. A one-year-old cat is similar to a person in their mid-teens, and a two-year-old is like someone around 24. After that the pace settles to about four human years for every cat year, so aging becomes more gradual.
Caring for your cat by life stage
Knowing your cat's human-equivalent age helps you plan the right care. Kittens need vaccinations, socialisation and plenty of play, adults benefit from weight and dental monitoring, and senior cats need more frequent check-ups for kidney, thyroid and joint health. Use the life stage as a prompt for the care your cat needs now.
