How the AP Statistics composite works
Each part is converted to a percentage of the points available, then weighted by its share of the exam: multiple choice 50%, the five short-answer questions 37.5% and the investigative task 12.5%. Adding the weighted parts gives a composite percentage, which this calculator maps to a predicted 1-5 score using common estimated thresholds.
Using the estimate wisely
Statistics curves shift year to year, so a borderline composite can round either way. The short-answer questions carry far more weight than the single investigative task, so consistent partial credit across all five is the fastest way to raise your composite.
